Barrett’s esophagus is a medical condition where the lower esophagus cells are damaged due to too much exposure to stomach acid. This damage alters the composition and the color of the esophagus cell. This condition is common among people with terminal gestroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The diagnosis of this disease can be worrying because it increases chances of developing esophageal cancer. Although the risks of getting esophageal cancer are minimal, monitoring of the disease places more focus on periodic examination to establish precancerous esophageal cells. If the precancerous cells are detected early, they should be treated to curb the chances of getting esophageal cancer.
